Reproduced Flowers

Fantoft Care Center, Bergen, 2004

The artwork consists of a series of four circular paintings, each with a diameter of 1 meter, placed around the four corridor lounges of the nursing home. The series is based on reproductions of floral motifs. The motifs are everyday images, but here they step out of their original context and are elevated and portrayed.

Reproductions are characteristic of their time, and aesthetics reflect the era. One example is postcards of flowers from the seventies, where the motif was elevated through theatrical lighting and artificial staging. For this artwork, I deliberately selected motifs from various time periods, spanning the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The situation and location were important in this artwork. It was designed with the knowledge that elderly people are primarily the users of these communal spaces, and I wanted the work to speak about time and continue to do so for generations to come.
