Brynseng school, Oslo, 2017
Mural painting in collaboration with Vigdis Fjellheim
Brynseng School is a pilot project for Undervisningsbygg focusing on environmentally and climate-friendly architecture. The school’s environmental focus became the theme we chose to center the art project around. The work consists of nine floors of wall paintings in two stairwells and is site-specific both physically and in terms of content.
The primary user group is the students of the school. We focused on the constructive and proactive child/student. These children will bear the responsibility for how the future will unfold, and the importance of awareness and taking action cannot be overstated. Curiosity, care, and respect for nature, activity, and dynamism were key elements in our work. We wanted to show the necessity of seeing and acknowledging both the small and the large, the local and the global simultaneously.
The painting tableaux became a play with dimensions, perspectives, colors, and forms, with motifs around endangered species, weather phenomena, overconsumption, carrying capacity, climate refugees, and migration.
