That Morning
Hommelvik Health Center, Trøndelag, 2016
Nine acrylic paintings in varying sizes
I was invited to create a piece of artwork for the Hommelvik Health Center. Hommelvik municipality has a strong working-class culture and is one of the few places in Norway where children are given the day off from school to participate in the May 1st parade. The community also has an engaged history association, and through collaboration with them, I had free access to an archive of private and public photographs. Using this archive as a starting point, I selected images that I then transferred into paintings. The selection of images is based on my personal preferences, and with an outsider’s perspective, I interpret the history of Hommelvik. All of the paintings are accompanied by small texts, freely interpreting information found in the history archive. I have also “translated” most of the photographs from black and white to color.
