ONOMATOPOETIKON
Holla school, Ulefoss, 2016
Mural painting on the feature wall in the cafeteria and the amphitheater, supplemented with painted shapes in plexiglass
The mural offers a visual interpretation of elements drawn from the natural sciences. I have freely explored symbols from physics, mathematics, geometry, geology, and astronomy. By combining unexpected symbols with a visual language derived from comics, new interpretations and meanings emerge.
I have also used handwritten equations and formulas. Equations are abstract ways to describe physical phenomena, but the phenomena only become apparent to those who understand the equation. It is a universal language that seeks equilibrium and balance.
I have also drawn inspiration from the unique geology of Ulefoss, with its distinctive rock formations. I have chosen to use the crystal as a recurring visual element. The crystal, reminiscent of precious stones, has a graphically interesting form. The crystals are presented as flying elements to evoke associations with asteroids and meteors.
